Peep has been a popular topic in mass communication. However, peep as a social phenomenon is seldom taken as a subject in academic research. The author of the thesis hopes to contribute to the research on this topic in the thesis.The thesis consists of 7 parts.Chapter one briefly introduces the motive, objective and methods employed in the thesis.In Chapter two and three, the author first defines and classifies the term collective peep and then analyzes the criticism leveled at mass communication on collective peep and points out mass communication is to blame for collective peep.Chapter four and five mainly talk about the causes of peep phenomena. Chapter four is made up of two parts. Part one analyzes the technical support for collective peep and points out electronic media becomes the most available tools used in collective peeping. Part two analyzes the causes of collective peep from the perspectives of psychology and social science and mass communication theories with a conclusion that the collective unconsciousness, psychological unbalance in industrial society, and check as well as agenda arrangement in mass communication lead to the overspreading peep.
