IPv6 boasts its superiority on the practical mobility. This dissertation is focusing on resolving the bottleneck in mobile IPv6 communication, namely the handover problem of communication nodes caused by the movement from one area to another. Some existing INTERNET-DRAFT of IETF are discussed. Evaluations and ameliorative suggestions are also given out. A new protocol is formulated to complement the current scheme. The handover problem means the nodes may suffer from the movement between different AR management areas in IPv6 network. An ideal handover process is supposed to be seamless, including fast handover (having short time lag) and smooth handover (possessing low data packets loss). Two schemes are brought out in the router layer. Both schemes could settle the problem in specific conditions, whereas, neither of them has a universal applicability. They are not competent for diversified applications (e.g. different mobile handover frequencies, diverse movement spans, various data fluxes etc). Therefore we are trying to work out a more adaptive solution comprehensive of the total costs of the communication.Readers would find a new protocol named OHMMP in the 2rd chapter. The OHMMP will discuss the options to the application of MAP based on the network costs in given circumstances. The handover in the node layers could cause certain time lag and some discontinuity of communication. A practical solution to that is the Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6 Protocol. The protocol introduces the separate handover in data link layer and network layer, reducing the time lag and data packet loss. In this way the consistency of MN's capability against the...
