Nowadays, with the development of wireless communication technology, the extensive application of wireless access technology, and a large number of wireless terminal equipment access to the network, the problem of IPv4 addresses exhaustedness is further aggravated.Meanwhile, the network user put forward higher requirement of mobility for IP network. In this case, the network technology based on IPv4 protocol has failed to meet the needs of the development of technology and the needs of the network users.So, IETF (Internet Engineering time Force) had designed the next generation Internet protocol IPv6 protocol to replace the IPv4 protocol in 1998. Compared with IPv4,IPv6 protocol not only has more great address space,the maller routing table and stronger security quality,but also has more powerful mobility solutions——Mobile IPv6.Mobile IPv6 can satisfy the move performance needs of network users,so it is one of the important network protocols. At present, the basic framework of mobile IPv6 protocol has been completed, this protocol is much close to the needs of the network users, so it has become the key point of modern wireless network communication technology. Through using the mobile IPv6 protocol, we can guarantee communication of mobile node not to be interrupted when it is moving.Howerver Mobile IPv6 has still had some problems. The major problem is that it can only provide a basic mechanism to maintain the communication accessibility for mobile node. When the protocol was designed,the designers did not consider the service quality of network.During the handover process, if we use the Mobile IPv6 protocol,there will have a large number of handover delay so that MN is unable to send or receive packets. Because, in real-time system, handover delay is a key factor which harms service quality, so the protocol must be improved.In order to improve the quality in Mobile protocol and enhance the handover performance, IETF proposed the Mobile IPv6 fast handover protocol and Hierarehieal Mobile IPv6 Mobility Management. Based on the study of mobile IPv6 protocol and the Mobile IPv6 fast handover protocol, this paper proposed an improvement proposal for fast handover which is based on multi-tunnel——TFMIPv6.This proposal not only inherits the advantages of the Mobile IPv6 fast handover protocol, but also can improve the handover performance. Through improvement of the fast handover procedure and configurating the Care of Address in advance,this proposal can avoid forecasting the handover information of mobile node, reduce the handover delay, decrease the effects caused by the moving speed of mobile node and reduce the huge spending of signaling that is from ping-pong movement. Finally, we did experiments to compare the performance of TFMIPv6 and the Mobile IPv6 fast handover protocol with NS2.The simulation results showed that TFMIPv6 has better performance than the Mobile IPv6 fast handover protocol.
