MIPv6 is a mobile communication protocol designed by IETF;MIPv6 is running in IPv6 network. IPv6 protocols are the next generation internet protocols and will become primary internet protocols finally by replacing IPv4 protocols. Based on inheriting by merits of MIPv4, MIPv6 protocol is designed by using basic concept and technology of MIPv4 and new traits of IPv6.This thesis introduces firstly some traits of mobile IP technology, also depicts the theory and the operation during handover of the protocol MIPv6. Based on the theories above, this thesis discusses and analyses several popular handover technologies extending the standard mobile IPv6, such as fast handover, and HMIPv6.On the basis of analysis, this thesis introduces a new handover mechanism for Mobile IPv6, PHFSMIPv6. This mechanism is built on top of the hierarchical mobile IPv6 manager model and the fast handover technology, in conjunction with prediction handover algorithm based on software and router buffer management. PHFSMIPv6 improves some limitations in current handover mechanisms. Finally we make simulation with network simulation software named NS2. This thesis analyses the simulation results, and makes comparison with other handover mechanisms. In the end of this thesis, conclusions of this thesis and suggestions for future research are given.This thesis has seven chapters as below:Chapter 1 introduces the concept of mobile IP. Design objective, architecture, key technology, future application of mobile IP are simply present, also introduces the source and research meaning of this article. The working and innovation of this thesis are given at last.Chapter 2 describes detailedly MIPv6 technologies, including component, data structure and working process.Chapter 3 introduces detailedly two popular handover mechanisms such as FMIPv6 and HMIPv6.Chapter 4 introduces a new handover mechanism, PHFSMIPv6. This thesis discusses detailedly implementation, and operations in handover process of PHFSMIPv6. This thesis also introduces prediction based on software and router buffer management in this mechanism.Chapter 5 makes a comparison with all mechanisms involved in this thesis.Chapter 6 makes simulation with PHFSMIPv6 by using network simulation software, NS2. This thesis introduces parameters design in NS2 and analyses TCP performance in this mechanism.Chapter 7 summarizes this thesis, at the same time;suggestions for future research are given.This thesis is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (90304018).
