With the development of computer technology, simulation manufacturing technology as a high technology has already enormous efects on many aspects such as saving costs, shortening product developing cycles, improving product quality and reducing losses, therefore applying computer simulation technology to gear to develop gear cutting si- mulation manufacturing system is valuable. Virtual machining system for gears has the abilities such as dynamic modeling for gears and cutters, simulation of machining process , analysis of machining technics and effect, and so on.. The gear designer can update the paras inputted, machining flow and design new machining technics according to the analysis of virtual machining effect. Virtual machining system for gears can reduce the development cost of gears and development time of new gears. So,the study on the theory and software development of virtual machining system for gears is significant.Now, the type of gears and cutters is various. If we have a common platform to design a varity of gears, we can get great convenience and improve our designing effect. In the paper, the feasibility of creating a common platform have been studied:Firs, the paper has analysized the architecture of virtual machining system for gears,then partition the system into modules and find the association among the modules. It has built framework for the creation of virtual machining system for gears.Second, the paper has discussed mainly the component-based software engineering . To get the ability of software reuse, the paper has used the component technology, built component libraries and develop interfaces for the components. ACIS and HOOPS has many components which can be used if you pay for them. But if you use the component which has the abilities you want,you can develop it youself. In the paper ,three kinds of components has been studied. One is the component of modeling blank and cutter,one is the component of displaying and operating the models,another is the component of analyzing the resulting data. The component technology has improved the performance of extension and integration of the system.Finally, the system has accomplish the ability of parameter-based modeling and optimizing the performance of model rendering using ACIS modeling kernel and HOOPS engine.
