Generally speaking, the equipments in telecommunication networks are from different vendors, whose management system can not cooperate with each other automotive. With telecommunication networks being more complex, there is more urgent requirement for unified network management system (NMS). Because of the difference among management interfaces supported by equipment element management system (EMS), the unified NMS has to deal with several interfaces, which increases NMS developing cost, developing time and do bad to the following development of NMS. A feasible method to resolve this problem is to unify management interface supported by EMS.With the maturation of 3rd generation mobile communications network (3G), management interface technical specification is being fulfilled. The specification defined communication protocols, management protocols and information models to decrease the different of vendor implementation.In this thesis, the generic information about 3G NMS interface including position, concept and definition methods is discussed firstly. Then, based on the requirements on 3G NMS interface specifications, the thesis analyzes problems exiting in current specifications and gives a method to model control function in network management interface. These problems include: accessing managed information, transforming bulk data via interface, transforming bulk operation via interface, describe and dispatch notifications for multi-users and monitoring communication link are discussed. At last, some advice for perfecting the project is brought forward.
