In the transportation, braking is very important for the security of running the train. On one hand, it can slow down or stop the train under any situation so as to guarantee the safety in process, on the other hand, it can also acts as an important means to advance the transport capacity of the railroad, i.e. the capacity to accelerate the train and its load. With the swift development of computer hardware technologies, application of a novel visual instrument has been a tendency in the measuring area. Virtual Instrument is the combination of modern computer technology, instrument technology and other new technologies. The launch and development of Virtual Instrument technology symbolize an important direction of the development of auto test and electronic measurement. Nowadays, Virtual Instrument is widely used in the fields of aero, communication, biomedicine, physical geography, electronic and mechanics.By applying Virtual Instrument technology, engineers only need to send the signals to be tested into the computers, and then use the great abilities of computing and analyzing to realize data display, data storage and data processing. Based on PC-DAQ technology, a multifunctional Virtual Instrument, which is proposed in this thesis, has the hardware which is mainly based on a laptop computer, two PCMCIA data acquisition cards and necessary signal condition box. Its software is developed by the graphical virtual instrument programming environment LabVIEW7.1, which is produced by NI.
