This thesis falls into four parts. It is theoretically based on the media control theory in Communication and the constructivism theory in International Relations. It is mainly focused on the research in the roots of US media's negative report on the political development in Hong Kong from 2003 to 2005.The first part opens the discussion by briefing the concept and characteristics of international communication, as well as the interactive relation between media and international politics. Then the author reviews the developments of US media's report on China and American people's attitudes towards China in the post-Cold War era, and presents the topic for discussion that the US media has an unfair coverage on Hong Kong's political developments.The second part serves as the theoretical foundation of the thesis. It introduces the media control theory in Communication and the constructivism in International Relations while explaining the interactive relation between US media and ideology in the context of international communications: US media's reports on China are deeply influenced by US ideology and values; on the other side of the coin, US ideology and values are constantly constructed by those reports.The third part is the core of this thesis focusing on case-study.
