Workflow coordinated execution of multiple tasks. Such activities can be packed into the form of reusable modules or workflow components, which can be assembled to create complex workflows. Component-based approaches to designing workflows have begun to receive considerable attention in some literatures. In this paper, workflow component is referred to the components into which the business process activities or other router activities are encapsulated. In order to set up the complex workflows from semantically heterogeneous components, a method is needed to deal with the semantically heterogeneous information sources and components which are independently developed. As great progress has been made in ontology-driven information integration and component-based workflows, ontology concept is added in workflow component. As a result, ontology-extended workflow component is presented. Consequently, a new framework of ontology-extended component-based workflows is presented to address the need for a theoretically sound basis of composition of semantically heterogeneous workflow components into semantically consistent workflows. And then, implementation and algorithm of the workflow dynamic changes under this frame is accordingly presented. Finally, a realistic example is represented to express how to change the workflow process definition and the process instance dynamically while keeping the workflow semantically consistent.
