This article deals with the strength of continuously developing public media in contemporary China, adopts the media cultural consumption of the public (or media consumption) as the object of study, to study the models of contemporary Chinese public culture based on current situation of media consumption, and to study the significance of public culture to the cultural building-up in a harmonious socialism society. Nowadays, the public media have close relation with public culture, the existence of public culture has become an important aspect of contemporary social system, actual life and even the system building-up, and the public culture has changed the production and consumption of culture. To the characteristics of contemporary public culture reflected from media consumption, we should neither blame nor affirm it simply, but shall adopt the attitude of giving limited criticism and concentrating on guidance. To develop public culture is to meet the cultural demand of the public, and the contemporary public culture has represented the aesthetic will of the public in general, however, the appropriate development of public culture must be accompanied by a strong force of criticism, requires some new and healthy ethical strength for its upgrading, diversified cultural options for revealing the varied aspects of modern culture, and the strong force of systems and laws for supervision and restriction.The article consists of 7 parts including the foreword, the body and the conclusion, as follows:Foreword: It mainly analyzes the significance of study on public culture reflected from media consumption in contemporary China, analyzes the academic background and the present conditions of study on public culture, and presents its own innovative ideas.Part I: It introduces and summarizes the ideas and concepts on the origin of public society and public culture, the definition of public culture study, theory of culture industry, the relation between culture industry and public culture, and the significance of public cultural production.Part II: It retraces the main views of"criticism"and"populism"in the theory of western public culture.Part III: It analyzes and summarizes the concepts of consumptive society and consumptive culture, and the consumptive characteristics reflected from Chinese media...
