The Study Of Solution Of Applying EPON To Bear IPTV

Currently, it has been a golden time to develop broadband service in China. On one hand, the heating up broadband services, especially IPTV, have greatly satisfied most customers in several aspects. On the other hand, the access technologies have been changing everyday, especially appearance of EPON, one representation of the xPON, which have accelerated the development of broadband access.With the development of IPTV, there are many problems exposed in the process of providing IPTV services. Inadequate bandwidth and defective QoS are the most seriously existing problems in access network.Applying EPON to bear IPTV is not a usual way in existing solutions due to the EPON's defective abilities and expensive price.In this thesis, it proposes a proper solution to support IPTV running on EPON; establishes the actual environment to apply the proposed solution; then proves the economic feasibility to deploy EPON as a possible access way in bearing IPTV by quantitative analysis.Chapter one gives the background and meanings of this thesis. Chapter two and three give an overview of IPTV and EPON. Chapter four proposes a proper solution of applying EPON to bearing IPTV service. In chapter five, it assesses the solution from both technical and economic aspects. Summery is given in chapter six, the prospect of IPTV and EPON are also mentioned.
