Over the past decade, enterprise and public sector adoption of IP Multi-cast-enabled applications has skyrocketed, and service providers have responded by increasingly adding multicast VPNs to service portfolios. Today, any service provider with enterprise customers must support IP Multicast to remain competitive. The dep-loyment of video services provides further incentives for the strengthening of a ser-vice provider's multicast platform, because it offers the most efficient, cost-effective means of supporting triple-play traffic (data, voice, and video). However, there still exist some issues for IP multicast such as user authentication, multicast channel management and so on. As we all know, IP multicast is an open membership based protocol which means that anyone can join the multicast group and receive the multicast stream. Thus, the multicast traffic can not be controlled and ma-naged over the network. The uncontrollability of multicast will be a severe weakness for the commercial deployment of IPTV service. Besides, the current EPON draft does not consider multicast support and management issues. Moreover, since EPON is a shared network in the downstream, the multicast transmission will waste much bandwidth if it is not configured properly. Therefore, it is very essential to provide multicast control function over EPON for delivering multicast IPTV service efficient-ly.Assuring the reliable and efficient operation of the IP multicast infrastructure re-quires mechanisms to manage and monitor a complex system of protocols at an in-ter-domain level. However, there is only limited work in developing network man-agement and monitoring systems that are suitable for this purpose. Most of the exist-ing systems are either not up to date with current developments and or have limited application scope. The utility of current systems is especially limited both in monitor-ing security vulnerabilities as well as in providing information that can be used to de-termine attacks in real time and illegal accesses. This lack of effective mechanisms for monitoring and managing network securi- ty is more damaging for emerging Internet technologies like IPTV. Newer technolo-gies are typically more vulnerable to security breaches because their protocols are in the early stage of development and are neither well-designed to handle attacks nor tested in real attack situations. In the specific case of IP multicast, security vulnerabil-ities and damage from attacks can be significantly greater than for other evolving ser-vices. This is because multicast networks operate on top of the existing Internet infra-structure and, as a result, inherit most of the security problems of the current Internet. Moreover, as the multicast service model is fundamentally different from the unicast model, multicast networks introduce several additional vulnerabilities. This paper presents a multicast control solution for IPTV service over EPON, which specifies different entities in the delivery network to perform multicast mem-bership authentication, multicast channel management and control, and the multi-cast source check. Based on the proposed solution, we successfully implemented a multicast controller, which can not only manage and control the multicast request and downstream multicast channel, but also make the multicast control point as close as possible to the clients. We took the following step in our research work.1. Seach for research reference materials which include previous reseach papers on multicastcontrol, EPON, IP Multicast and other related technology.2. Resaech foundation based on design and implementation (a) Used of simulation softwares to expirement on the system behaviors. (b) Demodulating the system in other to obtain the best suitable result.3. Review of the reseach work to improve the system reliability, and also the expiremental set up was made to put this controller over Linux platform, in other to validate the feasibility and effiency of the controller we evaluate the software through a real system demostration.4. The result obtained where satisfactory, result shows that the controller can perform IGMP Snooping, channel control, multicast stream filtering e.t.c., and also provide high processing performance.
