With the rapid development of computer network technology, Internet has been playing an increasingly important role in our life. The development of networks showed the following characteristics: first, the network scale is fast extending, network applications are more complex and multiplying; second, because connectivity equipment are vastly different, heterogeneous networks are becoming more and more prominent. As part of computer network architecture, network management should help networks fully exert their functions and offer the users with satisfactory services.Currently, most network management systems operate SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) which based on a Manager/Agent model.when the networks become more heterogeneous and the network scale becomes larger, this model has a lot of shortcomings both in flexibility and intelligence, so the traditional network management has been unable to meet the needs of network development.The mobile agent is a new distributed technology which is broadly used in e-commerce, network management and web-based information collection and distribution. The Mobile Agent is a program which can migrate and execute automatically in network. The mobile agent technology has provided a new solution to network management, since its mobility and intelligence can greatly improve the flexibility and the performance of network management system.This dissertation firstly expound the background and some related research works of MA-Based network management;Chapter2 briefly introduce structure of SNMP network management system model and its advantages and disadvantages;Chapter3 describes conception, features of mobile agent, analysis the difficulties and advantages about it;Chapter4 makes a general design for various parts which compose the MA-Based system; Finally, we draw conclusions and considerations for future work.
