IP has been the foundation of the Internet and all multivendor internetworks. IPv4 has some defaults, so a new protocol IPv6 has been defined with new features such as new header format, large address space, efficient and hierarchical addressing and routing infrastructure, stateless and stateful address configuration, built-in security, better support for QoS, new protocol for neighboring node interaction, extensibility etc. IPv4 will still last for a long period although IPv6 will ultimately replace it. So IPv4/IPv6 dual protocol stack technology has been brought forward and many vendors have implement it. Protocol conformance testing becomes a shining focus which is used to ensure the consistency between a protocol implementation and related specification and recommendation. Thus, the research is very important and might give referenced projects for applications of related fields.This dissertation gives some description about IPv4/IPv6 and protocol conformance testing methodology basing on author's reading and researching lots of related documents. Thereforce, many test cases of protocol conformance testing are designed specifically for end-system of IPv4/IPv6 dual protocol stack on small device including 2 test suites, 11 test groups and 100 test cases are designed. These test cases cover more than 20 RFC protocol specfications including IPv4&IPv6 protocol family.Test Suite Description Language is defined to describe these test cases to avoid the man-made errors because of natural language's defaults. TSDL is readable and high-efficient. Protocol Comformance Testing Software is developed and applied to the testing procedure of IPv4/IPv6 Dual Protocol Stack on Small Device.The content of the thesis can be described as following:Firstly, the thesis describes the features of IPv4/IPv6 and the transitting mechanism from IPv4 to IPv6. Secondly, the thesis gives simple introduction about the implementation requirement of dual protocol stack. Then the development environment and creativity of implementation of dual protocol stack on small device are showed here. Thirdly, protocol conformance testing and standard testing language,ie.TTCN, are demostrated and generalized.Subsequently the catalogue of all test cases is given. TSDL is demonstrated in detail and an particular example is given. Lastly, Winpcap programming,PCTS and its application are introduced.
