In this paper, we analyze several video synthesis technologies and present a video synthesis method for flow patterns. We can use it to synthesize video of natural phenomena that exhibit continuous flow patterns. This algorithm is based on flow-based video synthesis algorithm, and combines partial ideas of graph cuts algorithm. It is a new video synthesis algorithm. This algorithm can process input videos of natural phenomena of flow patterns (e.g. rivers, flames, waterfalls and smoke), and synthesize more realistic and active seamless video of arbitrary length than other algorithms. It is simple to implement. Some video synthesis technologies are discussed,analyzed their advantages and disadvantages and compared with each other in detail. Then we present the principle of our video synthesis algorithm for flow patterns in detail, the design of program and implementation. Finally, we introduce editor software for video synthesis algorithm for flow patterns.Video synthesis is video texture synthesis. Video texture is infinite and continuous that made of a finite video. It is a new media type between image and video. The process of video texture synthesis is the process of analyzing video texture and getting nonlinear basis. We analyze six video synthesis technologies and get the following results. Physically based simulation techniques simulate and control physical generate process of fluids by using algorithm. So it is computationally expensive and applicably bad. The extend method of texture synthesis, which is extended from the method of texture synthesis in the direction of time, has been applied to process short videos, e.g. fire, cloud and water etc. But it is unfit for processing the textures which have more details. Video textures algorithm creates long videos from short clips by finding the restrict relation of video flames and concatenating appropriately chosen subsequences. The problem of this algorithm is that the similar flame is difficult to be found for most of natural phenomena. But it provides a good developing plat for latter research works of video technique. Dynamic textures algorithm analyze dynamic textures as time sequence, and avoid the complexity in the dynamic system. It is good at synthesizing more complex video textures.
