Abstract/Summary:
Interpolation and weighted prediction is one of the important components of video en/decode standard. Interpolation is an interpolating process of reference block which is fetched from the reference picture (i.e. linear interpolation, 4-tap interpolation, 6-tap interpolation). The interpolated block data is then multiplied by a weight to obtain prediction block data. The residual data, which is derived from various-length-decode process, plus the prediction block data, and the reconstructed block data is ready for display. The algorithmic complexity of interpolation and weighted prediction has been improved with the development of video en/decode standard, and the difficulty in hardware implement has also been increased. Although the compression efficiency of H.264 is as two more times as MPEG-2, decoding complexity is 4 times more than MPEG-2. The overturn improvement of compression efficiency has absolutely saved many transmission resources and storage resources of video program, but asks more desires for the real-time decoding. This thesis first introduces video en/decode standards and their principles, then gives a high efficiency hardware implement design based on the analysis of interpolation and weighted prediction's algorithm. The design is simulated with Modelsim, synthesized and verified with Xilinx ISE, and is expected to support high definition real-time decoding of 1080i@30fps.
