In recent years, intelligent instruments have been developed rapidly, however, current intelligent instruments of single-function generally have no embedded operation systems, the whole applications is foreground/background system, the development pattern results in the difficulties of the synchronous execution of tasks, complication of development, debugging and maintenance, and the delay of the response for important events. With the development of embedded system and the progress of the technics of MCU, it has been possible to use the embedded OP system. RTOS being used in intelligent instruments makes the development of software regular, the test easier and the realization of modularization of program and shortens the period of development.The thesis states the feature, current status and the trend of development of intelligent instrument, and states the content and meaning of the design of intelligent instrument based embedded system. States displacement measure instruments requirement analyses and operation principle, provides the blue print of realization of hardware and software;The principle and complete process of design of intelligent instrument of not-contact and tiny-displacement measurement system based on RTOS is introduced fairly detailedly. The demand of system is analyzed, and for the two parts of hardware, main board and display board, whose operation principles are introduced, based on the requirement of system, the total scheme of the design and realization of software is analyzed, including the feature of OS, portabilty and scalability;the partition of task, the usage of semaphore, uncomplete flowchart and the design of driver are detailedly introduced and display some key C code. Finally, the thesis analyzes the performance of system, especially for the particularity of KEIL C51, puts forward some facts need be considered, states how to improve the performance of system from software, ananyzes and test the usage rate of CPU, the usage of RAMand FLASH and the dealy of interruption and scheduler, the performance analyse estimates the systemic reliability.The design and realization of this system is first applying of Small RTOS51 in not-contact and tiny-displacement measurement system, whose value for application is validated, it is a meaningful and successful attempt. The applying of Small RTOS51 shorten the period of development and make the maintatence and upgrade of system easier. The instrument was adopted successfully in monitor system of streamer machine. All indexes match the practical requirements, running stably and reliably.
