Database technology is one of the most fast_developed areas in thecomputer science. It is also the technology which is widely used and becomes coretechnology and important foundation of information system and application system.Recently with the development of database technology, a new concept which ismore and more accepted by people is heterogeneous database . After the 1990's ,many enterprises and organizations put more and more persons and money toresearch heterogeneous database. Heterogeneous database has become hot topic inthe database research area . Heterogeneous database is the combination of many different kinds of databasethrought technology ,integrating one unit in logical . These heterogeneous databasesare accessed just as one database ,we don't care about the difference of theseheterogeneous databases,such as the difference of hardware ,operationsystem ,communication ,DBMS and semanic. In the same time when we useheterogeneous databases, we don't destroy database's application ,entirety andsecurity .Heterogeneous database is delt with in many ways in this essay. firstly weintroduces the historical condition of the formation and development ofheterogeneous database. Then discussing the basic theory of heterogeneous databasewhich includes the concept of heterogeneous database , heterogeneous schema andadvantage of it and discuss distributed transaction management and security whichshould be sloved in the heterogeneous database in detail. We also discuss two kindsof ways to solve heterogeneous database,which are the transformation of data andthe integration of data . In the end, we take the birth_control management systemas example to discuss the specific solution of heterogeneous database.
