With the development of information technology, the network system, which actsas the intermedium of information, has grown up rapidly. As a result, designingnetwork equipments with excellent performance has been more and more important.At present, the PowerPC series network communication processors of Motorola arewidely used by network equipment manufactures because of its powerful function andgood performance. MPC8260 is the new product of PowerPC series designed byMotorola. It is a 32 bit microprocessor intergraded with a communications processormodule and various network communication port, so it has powerful capability onnetwork communication, and it can be used to design high performance networksequipments such as network switch and router. We design an embedded real-timenetwork communication development platform based on MPC8260, which canperform Ethernet communication, RS232 serial port communication and ATMcommunication. In this paper we introduce the platform based on MPC8260 designedby us.The first chapter of the paper introduces the characters of MPC8260 and wholedesign scheme of our system. The second chapter introduces the design of externalbus expansion, including memory design and L2 cache design. The third chapterintroduces the design of board control & state register. The forth chapter introducesthe design of signal integraty. The fifth chapter introduces the embedded real-time OSVxWorks. The last chapter gives some information about hardware debugging.
