MC68000 is applied as main processing module among program-control switch series of NDSC.With the progress of program-control switch, processor has also been upgraded to MC68360 and MPC860. MPC860 is also extensively used in composite mobile telecommunication (CMT) system. With the development of technology and higher demand of function ability, new business of CMT system are coming beyond the ability of MPC860, thus a new CPU module is in great need. MPC8260 of Motorola company is a new generation high-performance RSIC microprocessor based on PowerPC architecture. It has ability of 280MIPS at 200MHz, improving a lot compared to 86 MIPS at 50 MHz of MPC860. Furthermore it can support more protocols such as ATM and provide more interfaces. MPC8260 is suitable for CMT system to perform calculation and processing. My subject is to design and realize a common platform with MPC8260 and to lay the foundation for hardware and software designs of CMT.The paper introduces basic architecture and features of MPC8260 and puts forward a design scheme of MPC8260 CMC common processing platform depending on applications of MPC8260 in CMT. According to different fuctions, the platform is divided into processor,memory,ethernet port.serial port,power supplyjeset controlling,etc. Designs of each mudule are presented in detail. In addition, PCB design methods and skills of high speed processing platform for MPC8260 are described in the paper.To develop application software, not only steady hardware system is needed, a superior operating system is also necessary. VxWorks is a high-performance real-time operating system that can support PowerPC processors. Board support package (BSP) provides VxWorks with primary interface to hardware environment. Through analysing VxWorks boot sequence this paper introduces detailedly BSP development, which consistes of configuring internal registers, initializing peripherals, making bootrom, customizing VxWorks components, compiling devices drivers for serial and ethernet port.At last, this paper introduces how to debug the platform with VisionlCE. At the same time, it analyses problems appearing while debugging and puts forward the corresponding solution.MPC8260 common platform offers one more excellent processor solution for CMT. The platform has passed testing. It can be applied to CMT system for upgrading CPU and will get extensive application in the future.
