In recent years, the technology of workflow has become more and more important in daily business deal. In the whole world, the research of the technology of workflow and the related product has entered a quite prosperous stage, now the academe and companies pay attention to it. However, at present, most products of workflow system and its antetype system are absent on transaction feature, which is limited in the application of workflow. How to combine the technology of workflow with the technology of transaction management to ensure the correspondency of the data from the workflow is the emphasis of the paper. In this paper we research the transaction in WfMS primarily, give the notions of transaction and atomic transaction in workflow and put forward a proposal which is to solve the problems of atomic transaction in WfMS by using 2PC protocol. The paper describes a framework for the management of atomic transaction in WfMS and introduces the framework's structure; moreover, it discusses the transaction expression in this framework and gives a detailed implementation of management of atomic transaction by means of 2PC protocol. Under this framework, WfMS will be provided with the basic and available atomic transaction capability and can keep the consistency of the workflow data. This research of the atomic transaction in WfMS based on the print industry ERP system project is a exploration to both aspect as the management of atomic transaction in workflow and the development of WfMS, and it is very valuable to the development of the practicability and expansibility of workflow ERP system.
