Present Situation, Problems And Future Of Assessment On University Libraries

Triggered by the assessment on education in 1980s,the assessment on universities libraries is being carried out first. Over 20 years, the guidance and promotion of the assessment on libraries has been highly appreciated with deeper research although still needing being penetrated and its theory system being improved.Two trends has aroused my attention, one of which is the rising of User Assessment which focuses on service ,and the other is the rapid development of library's web, digital construction and information service results in the urgent need of theory guidance of the assessment.I believe the construction of the library evaluation should be based on practice. Therefore, this essay is finished on the detailed materials I gathered combined with relative research home and abroad for the purpose of accuracy, objective analysis with strategies towards the existent problems.This essay is divided into five parts which contain the following ideas.The first part contains the significance of library assessment which summarizes the prominent research results of relevant assessment from the views of goals and functions.The second part systematically analyzes the contents and methods of assessment on the basis of assessment standard and significance.The third part contains the pros and cons of the library assessment which points out the backwards of present assessment systems and the reconstruction of university library assessment systems concentrating on the characteristics of information and future development.The fourth part focuses on the research and study on the reconstruction of new library assessment system, which is the highlight of the essay, demonstrating new assessment system from the angles of literature and documents, digital resources, service for readers, managing effect.In conclusion, the essay analyzes the sustainable road and trends of the assessment, calling upon colleagues in the same field to contribute to the research of the assessment in order to enable the harmonious advancement of the assessment as well as the durable life of the program.I hope the essay would contribute to the making and improvement of the university library assessment standard as well as the elevation of the university library assessment .work.
