Color matching is a very important procedure in textile dyeing industry. Because of depending on human's experience, traditional way of color matching in dyeing is not only time-consuming, but also inaccurate. On the other hand, computer color matching method that is based on Kubelka-Munk theory has some disadvantage, mainly because the theory is related to some pre-determined assumptions. So computer color matching in dyeing based on Elman neural network is proposed as a new method. By analyzing the principle of color matching in dyeing, a new Elman network model is constructed with the data provided by Qingdao Hongtai Dyeing Company. Finally, a hybrid programming method with VB and Matlab is introduced and applied to develop the computer color matching system for dyeing. The color matching system can carry out studying and color matching, thus it has the value to use in production.
