The new technique of instrument design has been applied widely which has extremely accelerated and facilitated the process of meter design, including the Electronic Design Automatic (EDA). However, great complexity still exists in instrument design. If we can abstract the various criteria and the knowledge during the process, forming a solid system of expert knowledge, then combined with the reasoning mechanism of the Expert System, new instruments can be designed automatically by the software, changing the traditional ways of instrument developing.Expert System of Instrument Design is established on the modularization of instrument. Individual instruments are composed at random by making use of the information of the modules which is stored in the database. In addition, instruments are developed and validated by the generic algorithms according to all kinds of rules, so that defective ones are eliminated and qualified ones, which can satisfy the requirements of users, are generated automatically. The inferred instruments have complete schematic diagrams and programs about each constituent module.Based on the above, the various reasoning ways of Expert System is studied, the reasoning mechanism of Expert System of Instrument Design is designed. In the thesis followed works are mentioned:(1) By reviewing the relevant literature, the basic theories of the reasoning mechanism, as well as their application range is introduced.(2) A reasoning engine concerning the Expert System of Intelligent Instrument Design is developed. The reasoning methods include rule-based reasoning, case-based reasoning and generic algorithm.(3) The reasoning results are analyzed. The function, performance parameters of instrument inferred with those put forward by the users are compared, in order to see whether the inferred instrument observe the rules needed to , and to see whether they have an intact schematic diagram.
