Research And Application Of Workflow And Its Simulation Technology For Bug Tracking System

Bug track system is an important test management tool;it is applied to the whole software development life cycle. Various roles and complex procedure are characteristics of bug track process. However, now most of bug track tools are based on DBMS. It's design according to the standard bug track process. There are lacks of process flexibility, hardly to analyze the efficient of bug track process and not easy to implement the administration and monitoring function. Workflow is well-suited technology to solve the process flexibility. In practical, developer can redefine process model to meet the adjustment of business process, and not need to modify its concrete implementation (database design, code, user interface and etc). At the same time, workflow simulation technology can efficiently, safely and economically analysis and validate process model, and identify problematic areas.From modeling, building management platform and simulating point of view, we discuss how apply workflow to bug track system. The contributions of this dissertation are as follows:1. A method is provided which workflow description language defines software process model, and the extensions which were used in software process modeling. Supported by the extended class, workflow description language can define the functions of metrics collection, notification and validation for bug track process.2. According to workflow reference model, the management platform for bug track system is built, the designing and implementation about major functional components of reference model are presented, and the method of parsing workflow extended class is also explained.3. A simulation system for bug track process is designed, and the related algorithms and required components which set simulation environment, perform simulated process and evaluate simulation data are presented. At the end of the document, a simulating instance for bug track process is illustrated;it provide the analysis result about duration, consumed cost, and workload for the different process models, activities, participants and bugs.
