Under the circumstances of Publishing industry reform, the publishinghouses in China are faced with furious competition within and out of theindustry. How to develop their competitiveness and what the governanceshould do in order to supervising and evaluating their performance morescientifically are two main issues in front of us.The researches by far, are mostly empathizing on qualitative analysissuch as 'how much important the competitiveness is for our Chinesepublishing houses' rather than quantitive analysis which is of muchsignificance as well. Therefore, I wrote this paper, trying to construct an indexsystem of competitiveness evaluation, hoping it will be a reference for therelated research and practice. Started with the analysis of enterprise competitiveness, the paperconstructs the index system after analyzing the main factors which make up ofthe press competitiveness.The factors that make up to the index system are from the most superficialand usual ones to the most inherent attributes ,which are divided into twolevels—the results layer and the causes layer. There are altogether 7sub-elements, 27 index in this system. The results layer reflect the pressperformance in the market and it is the current competitive strength for thepress. The causes layer are consist of resources and abilities owned by thepress, which is the deeper and a more decisive factor for an publishingenterprise. Subsequently, the article describes and explains the main 7elements. And also, it brings out the index system of press competitivenessevaluation after allocating the authority of each index.
