With the emergence of new computer technology and the increase of distributed, heterogeneous, semi-structured and unstructured data, it is difficult to manage these complex data by traditional relational database. Therefore it is certain that describing data with XML and managing XML data with XML database will be focused by academia and industry. Currently, XML database is mainly applied to content-management system.Content-management system is now one of the focuses in the field of information construction, so more and more organizations begin to pay much attention to the study and development of the content-management system. In the coming, the content management will be one of the key factors for information construction. The data structure of the study resources are hierarchical or non-structured in Discipline Knowledge Repository (DKR), such as electronical book, electronical paper, video, audio, graphics. So it is the best choice that these data are managed by XML database.Oracle XML DB is the term used to describe technology in the Oracle Database 10g that delivers high-performance storage and retrieval of XML. This technology extends the popular Oracle relational database, delivering all of the functionality associated with a native XML database, in addition to all of the functionality provided by the most powerful relational database. This dissertation analyzes Oracle XML DB architecture firstly. The technology about storage and query of XML is discussed and Oracle XML DB Repository is analyzed which support XML content management (XCM).Then the concept of content management is introduced, and the functions of content-management system are concluded. The dissertation also discusses the crucial technology of designing XCM.Then based on the thoughtway of software engineering and database design, anobject oriented model and the corresponding XML schemas are proposed, which respectively specify the conceptual schema and the logical schemas of the DKR. The logical schemas are transformed to the corresponding physical model based on Oracle XML DB.Finally the DKR is implemented based on Oracle XML DB, which is a kind of Content Management System including semi-structured and unstructured information. In this application, the study content is abstracted and a series of content model are constructed. Editing and describing content is finished by model mechanism. Users can access content conveniently by Internet protocol and publish content by XSL stencil repository.
