For the technology of embedded network communication has good developmental and applied prospect, more and more companies and institutions have started researching them. But as far as it goes, it still exists such problems as how to improve the interoperability, opening ability and compatibility between embedded devices in communication network.SIP, made by IETF, is a application-layer control protocol for creating, modifying, and terminating multimedia sessions with one or more participants in IP network. It has the advantages of simple, flexible and distributed control mode. SIP doesn't concern about the session's content but only manages and controls the session itself. In addition, SIP can provide syncretic multimedia services and has good ability of expansibility, mobility and media-negotiation. All these characteristics are helpful to enhance the interoperability, opening ability and compatibility between the embedded network devices.Therefore, the paper presents the thought that applying SIP to the embedded system, which gives a kind of new research idea to improve the opening ability and compatibility between embedded devices which offer multimedia services in communication network.The main work of this research includes following three aspects:1. Deeply studying the function structure, realization theory, message mechanism and signaling flow of SIP. Discussing and analyzing the superiority and the characteristic of SIP when it is applied to embedded environment from the view of its opening ability, expansibility, mobility and flexibility.2. Analyzing the key questions when designing the embedded application system based on SIP. Designing and realizing the embedded SIP telephone terminal based on S3C2410X in LAN. Aiming at this telephone terminal, presenting the program of how to design and develop embedded SIP application system from hardware and software.3. Testing and analyzing the target terminal system. The result not only proves the correctness and rationality of the program and flow advanced by paper when designing and developing embedded SIP system, but also confirms that it is effective to improve embedded devices' opening ability and compatibility in communication network when using SIP.
