The Research And Implementation Of Embedded VoIP Gateway

Voice over Internet Protocol offers a new way to shorten the distance among the people, such as making IP telephony which including audio, FAX or video.With the increasing demand on the worldwide communication, VoIP has been applied broadly. VoIP is a kind of multimedia service based on public network. It can provide high quality calls and reduce the cost of communication. VoIP gateway, which deals with many things such as router, VoIP stack implement and so on, is an important device of VoIP. Therefore, a stable and high cost-performance VoIP gateway will improve the competition of an enterprise greatly. The project has a research on embedded VoIP gateway, and then implements an embedded VoIP gateway.This paper covers the following contents. First, based on the overview of associated background, some basic knowledge, such as VoIP, embedded system and so on, is described, which is important to the understanding of study background and study purpose. Second, introduce VoIP protocol in detail, including H.323 protocols. Third, focus on the VoIP system design. Fourth, introduce the hardware platform used in the project, VoIP stack implementation, architecture of VoIP gateway and routing. Implement an embedded VoIP gateway in the end. Fifth, introduce the configuration for VoIP gateway, and then test the voice quality. Finally, the paper describes the succeeding tasks, such as the improvement of performance, cofigurate the gateway and so on. The completement of all these tasks will make our embedded VoIP gateway easier to use.The hardware platform used in the project belongs to ARM series. It has high processing speed and good performance. it can satisfy the demand of VoIP gateway perfectly. However, there isn't implementation of VoIP gateway on such platform yet. The research and implementation in the project just fill the blank. In addition, the embedded VoIP gateway in the project has good expansibility and compatibility, too. It supports the access of Windows netmeeting and other Linux clients, and communicates with other VoIP gateway.
