Nowadays, display technology is one of the most activated and hot technology, because it is related to our most important sense - vision. After 100 years develop of the popular 2D display technology, it has made great success of thinness, scale, luminance, contrast and response speed. Meanwhile, people begin to be critical of the limitations of flat display and start to research new 3D display technology, though 2D display gives us nice-looking pictures.We can use 2D display device to simulate 3D objects by "perspective". By projecting 3D to 2D, we still can sense 3D objects by former experience from 2D images without their depth data. This kind of 3D display obviously couldn't satisfy people's request especially in the 3D CAD and product exhibition, because they have lost 1 dimensional data. So the volumetric display technology which is most accord with human vision begins more and more valuable to be researched.The paper analyzed volumetric 3D display's theory model and developed a rotating planar screen based volumetric 3D display system by emissive LED screen. The generated image's characteristics had a strong resemblance to the real world and high fidelity could be found between the original object and the displayed image. The system could perform a rasterization on the original 3D object model and display all the pixels in their exactly position. No limit view angle could let people observe it freely and catch the vision of a real 3D image.With the develop process of the system, we analyzed each element of volumetric 3D display technology in the paper. To have a real-time display, we successfully developed an infra-red wireless transmission platform to be integrated in the system. After having a data compression algorithm in the transmission system, we could display 3D data with a refresh rate of 2.63HZ. It is the foundation of making a next generation of the system which is just being presented.Furthermore, to solve an over-bright problem in the center area of the displayed 3D scene, we brought forward a correction algorithm for the 3D space which performs a rasterization in Cartesian coordinates for the display data with cylindrical coordinates with a small error. It would provide a good reference for perfect volumetric 3D display theory model.
