Vision is the human most important sense. Nowadays, Flat display technology has developed more mature. But it is lack of true stereo, couldn't satisfy people's vision request. So people begun to solve the limitations of flat display and research true 3D display technology.Volumetric 3D display is the latest solution in 3D display. It permits the generation, absorption, or scattering of visible radiation from a set of localized regions within a transparent volume. Therefore, images that occupy three physical dimensions are generated, providing the majority of important depth cues automatically and naturally. Main advantage over other 3D displays is direct viewing, all-around viewing and group viewing.The research of previous volumetric 3D system was support by"863"and received praise widely. This paper mainly researches a new system, because previous system can't display complicated model. After analyzing the volumetric display principle, we divide the system into three sub-systems and analyze sub-systems in detail. Later, this paper begins to build physics system. Image space is created by rotational double bladed flat screen. We employ the most advanced SLM technique–DMD and projector as voxel activation device and design volumetric engine which control DMD and image space working synchronization. With continually effort, volumetric 3D display platform has been built successfully which display true physics depth image.Through experiment, the platform validates the volumetric display theory, and proves it is worth to research and has brightness future. The main achievements in this paper are the DMD control algorithm, model slice algorithm, the volumetric engine and volumetric display platform. At last, this paper proposes a new solution to some weakness found in experiments.
