Compared with the store-and-forward IP faxing, the real-time IP faxing has many advantages, such as speed, credibility, convenience, low-cost, anti-network time-lapse. But it also has some disadvantages, agilitiless, without standard interface, dispatch of device from different manufacturers and so on. The Next Generation Network can resolve all the problems, because it separates the control from the bearer and the entity in the Next Generation Network corresponds with the standard protocol. Based on the above investigation, a scheme of the Next Generation Network-based real-time faxing is brought forward. It contains the construct of the system and the flow of the realization. In the construct of the system, the softswitch controls the media gateway to accomplish the process of the negotiation about the media at the beginning and the end of the facsimile. The design of the negotiation flow about the faxing media is based on the standard protocols between the softswitch and the media gateway, includes inside field flow and outside field flow. The faxing function module of the softswitch is designed and implemented, including the exterior interface module and the operation module. The exterior interface module switches the message of inside and outside, the operation module deals with the inside message and completes the negotiation of the media. Modules correspond with each other on the mechanism of the inside message. The realization of the negotiation flow will come true in the inner of the softswitch, includes inner inside field flow and inner outside field flow. The mechanism of the inside message and the inner faxing flow will be described as pseudocode. The faxing function module of the media gateway is designed and implemented. It includes the exterior interface module and the central control module. The exterior interface module switches the message of inside and outside, the central control module deals with the inside message. There is also a mechanism of the inside message. The central control module will be described as pseudocode. The design of the system, the detailed flow and the realization of the arithmetic has been tested in the actual experiment environment. The Next Generation Network-based real-time faxing has come true, and it can achieve the basic request of the Next Generation Network, includes the quality and the speed of the facsimile.
