The bloggers have gone through 11 years since they appeared in 1994. Surrounded with diverse praises and criticisms, their impact is accumulated, turning into a powerful tide that swipes the whole globe. As a new way of online communication, the bloggers are exerting a great potential and are giving birth to a lot of phenomena, which had caused worldwide attention. On a basis of comprehensive analysis to the definitions given by experts, scholars and some authoritative periodicals, this article begins with a brand-new definition to bloggers from the angle of their function, and makes a further analysis to their characteristics. Having made a summarized narration on Habermas's theory of "public sphere", the article sets up the environment in which the bloggers exist, that is, "the global public sphere", and it also makes an analysis on their similarities and differences. In its main body, A Discussion on the Types of Bloggers'Role-play, the article adopts communication theories, combining with studies on specific cases, summarizes and classifies five role-play types with respective characteristics of the bloggers in "the global public sphere". They are: information offers stepping into the mainstream, the disclosers of the "true lies", the free expressers of "diverse voices", the "crouched killers"on line, and the rational correspondents of net society. At last, with regard to the status quo of the world of bloggers, the article makes an insightful thought on its potential crisis and suggests its countermeasures.
