A Study On Grass-root Show

As a concentrative embodiment of the management attribute of TV organization entertainment programs play an important role in the process of attracting audience. Entertainment programs have to adjust itself actively to adapt to the ever changing demand of media market, and that's the reason why it develops with a greater speed than any other genre of programs. Behind each step of the development of entertainment programs, there is some in-depth political, economic, and cultural background."Grass-root Show" is a newborn genre of "real TV", appearing in China since 2003. Since the very beginning of its appearance, Grass-root show has got high audience rating and thus got widely cloned allover China. Now it has become the most popular genre of entertainment program.In this article, I try to explain why this kind of show will appear in China and how come it will prosper so rapidly. The first part of the paper is an introduction to "Grass-root show" and the status quo, and it also analyses the changes in social-culture context, and that's the reason why "Grass-root show" will appear. In the second part, also the most important part of the article, I try to explain why its appearance is inevitable to TV industry. And the last part is about the negative social-culture influence of "Grass-root Show" and the potential crisis of its producer, which put too much dependence on "Grass-root Show". I gave there countermeasures at the end of this chapter."Grass-root Show" successfully incorporates such program conformations as documentary, entertainment, game, talk shows, and news reporting. It provides a method for the ordinary people, through which they can gain the feeling of success and at meanwhile release pressure. The audience is conferred with much greater power and the communication between disseminator and audience is unprecedentedly activated. In terms of genre, it makes crash to the traditional concept of TV program, and is expected to be the future tendency of TV industry.Yet there are many obstacles on the way of future development of Grass-root show, such as superficial positioning, inner emptiness, homogenous content, too long hours of playing, etc. As to the TV organization, it should enlarge the extension of Grass-root show and deepen its connotation, and associate it with some kind of public benefit activity, to assure its sustainable vitality.
