Knowledge service is a new requirement when we enter into the times of knowledge economy. Recently, a lot of researches have put emphasis on the technical study of knowledge management. So the study on the problem of knowledge service of archival departments doesn't reflect the features of archives or form the completely theoretical systems.In this article, a lot of analysis will be made on the respects of humanity challenges in the process of knowledge service in the view of knowledge management. And the emphasis of it will be the following problems: the theoretical and practical basis on knowledge service of archival departments and the conditions and tools of it. Knowledge service will also bring great changes to archival researches, concluding forming archives, challenges to archival theories, archival orientation, competition and cooperation of departments of knowledge service.The author makes attempts to put the ideas of knowledge management, the practice of archives and the developments of modern science and technologies together in order to express some personal understanding on the theme of knowledge service of archival departments in this article, and expects it would be useful for archival departments to suit its development in the times of knowledge economy.
