The expert database system was a software developed for injection molding process with prototyping method. Abundance of performance parameters, about the plastic materials and injection molding machines, were gathered in the database. In the knowledge base, it was collected that the data was correlated with the injection equipment selecting and settings. The properties of materials and /or resin grade could be inquired from the database. With the inference engine, the system could recommend an adequate injection molding machine by the demand shot weight the user inputted. After that, with the data of product shape, dimension, projected area and mold dimension etc., the system verified if the recommended injection machine was acceptable or not. In addition, the system provided the proposal of parameter settings for injection molding process. A designed examination and a practical test showed that the system could meet the demands of injection molding process parameter settings, hence it was correctness and reliability.In this paper, there was a brief introduction on the domain knowledge the development involved and gave a particular description and illustration for the development process. According to software engineering, the requirement analysis and definition, software design, coding, testing and evaluation were carried out.Due to programming with the Prolog language, which had a lower requirement of software and hardware environment of cpmputer and a better replantability, the system had a shorter response time and stronger robustness. Therefore, no matter what on the performance of time or in the capability of space, the system had the indubitable advantage over those programming with other computer language.
