The Research Of Network Management Technology In Wireless Mesh Network

Wireless Mesh networks (WMN) are multi-hop networks which have the abilities of self-healing and self-configuration. It has many advantages, such as lower cost of network deployment, easy connection, increasing reliability and so on. In wireless Mesh, the node can automatically establish connection and maintain links. This type of network can integrate heterogeneous networks by routers which have the functions of bridge/gateway. Wireless Mesh network management is one of the key technologies, which can provide the reliable protection for the network efficient running.The topology of WMN has many dynamic characteristics, such as dynamically networking, multi-hop transmission, station mobility, traffic diversity and so on, which cause this type of network management complicated. The traditional network management system widely used the structure of the hierarchical static tree management, making the management lack of the autonomic ability. So the traditional network management model was not suitable for the dynamic features in wireless Mesh. On accounting of the characteristics of wireless Mesh, the paper focuses on its management technologies, designing to resolve the problem of traditional network management model not fitting for the wireless Mesh management.Mobile agent with the features of dynamic and intelligent, is an agent technology rising in recent years. The Mesh management system can be greatly improved in intelligent, flexibility and scalability if the mobile agents and wireless Mesh management can be combined. It can also overcome the disadvantages in traditional centralized network management and improve the performance of wireless Mesh management system totally.Under the background of the National High Technology Research and Development Program ("863"Program) of China and broadband wireless network projects, in this paper, firstly the feature of wireless Mesh, the differences of the existing wireless network management model and the running conditions of wireless Mesh were illustrated, secondly the mobile agent technology was specially analyzed and was introduced in wireless Mesh network management. After the analyzing of the demands of Wireless Mesh Network project implementation needs, the mobile agent was introduced to construe the distributed dynamic management mechanism, and then the management model combining the mobile agent and SNMP was built, which can fit the wireless Mesh network environment. Thirdly, topology search algorithm and the management task handoff algorithm were proposed which resolved the management problem raised by the features of wireless Mesh. Finally, wireless Mesh fault and performance management system was designed, later on the fault and performance functions were realized through the IBM Aglet and Advent Net SNMP package. It is validated that the mobile agent based wireless Mesh management system can improve the Intelligent, flexibility and expansibility of the wireless Mesh management.
