In the age of information, it is a focal point for the research specialist staffs that how to gather and test large numbers of information. Wireless sensor networks (WSN) technology is qualified for this role with the distinguishing features such as low cost, low dissipation, and strong adaptability. In order to take full advantage of sensor technology, we can combine it with communication tech to achieve the goal of remote monitor and control. Along with the rise of Internet of Things, WSN has been used widely, especially in the field of networked test. Meanwhile we have to face many challenges brought by WSN. Lots of mature technologies that used in existing wireless nets can't been transplant into WSN because the power limit of the sensor nodes used in WSN. So it is the key factor that how to retrench the dissipation of the net for extension of WSN's lifetime.Among the methods for energy conservation there are mainly two categories: software methods and hardware methods. They both play important roles in the reduction of consumption. This thesis probe into the design of wireless sensor nodes and lucubrate the routing protocol in WSN. It put forward a hardware design of wireless sensor node base on ZigBee which is a low rate and short distance wireless transmission protocol standard. Then a new heterogeneous-aware clustering protocol is proposed after detailed analysis for some classic routing protocols. The communication is conducted through the organization of clusters in clustering WSN. This thesis assume that a percentage of population of sensor nodes are equipped with additional energy resources in the net to achieve better performance. In this kind of heterogeneous WSN, if the nodes die untimely, the additional energy can't be used properly because the stability of the clustering structure decreases significantly. The classic clustering protocols mostly are heterogeneous oblivious protocols which can't take full advantage of the presence of node heterogeneity. To solve this problem, this thesis propose an improved algorithm based on LEACH protocol, which makes weighted election probabilities for each node to become cluster head according to the remaining energy in the node. This new algorithm can prolong the stability period of the net and increase its lifetime. In the Matlab simulation the superiority of the new algorithm is verified compared to LEACH protocol. It can prolong the time interval before the death of the first node, the stability period, and make the performance of WSN better, truly.
