Image monitoring system, for its visualization, convenience and abundant information, are widely used in many fields, such as telecommunications, power, banking, transportation, fire control, water conservancy, public security and national defense. The traditional image monitoring system installs the cameras at fixed points and transmits data by cable and wires. This monitor mode needs large pre-investment, have no mobility and low expansibility as a result of the limitation of physical wire layout.With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, the embedded wireless image monitoring system, which applied embedded technology, digital image processing technology and wireless communication technology, can solve above problems well. Wireless image monitoring system, with the advantages of low investment, simple installation, good scalability and low maintenance cost, has found increasingly wide application in the field of image monitoring.The embedded wireless image monitoring system designed in this paper takes embedded control platform based on ARM and WCDMA wireless transmission network as its core. It includes two parts: image collection terminal and image monitoring computer. Image collection terminal collects image data according to the command transmitted from image monitoring computer, then compresses and encrypts them in order to reduce bandwidth use and data traffic and improve the security of wireless data transmission. Transmitting data via WCDMA network can extend the scope of monitoring, increase the transmission speed and improve the quality of image monitoring, because of its large coverage, high anti-interfering performance, high communication speed and low bit error rate. Image collection terminal can directly accesses to the Internet wirelessly, which cancels all kinds of complicated cable connection and makes it simple installation, good expansibility. This meets the requirements of monitoring more points and integrating with existing network better.This thesis designed the hardware circuit of image collection terminal, which contains master control unit, WCDMA wireless communication unit and image collection unit; elaborated the realization course and method of wireless communication of wireless image monitoring system based on Client/Server mode. This dissertation takes monitoring computer as server, image collection terminal as client. The two parties establish a connection based on TCP/IP protocols through Socket, and then bidirectional data transmission can be realized.Experiment result shows that the system realizes the function of real-time wireless image monitoring and it has high reliability and good security, and reaches the predetermined target.
