With the rapid development of computer and network technology, data grows explosively. Hardware failure, software error, human error, virus and natural disaster often cause data losing. Data backup is the best way to prevent data losing. However, a mount of server resources are employed in the back-up process, and the data Backup system is enslaved to network bandwidth, it is difficult to share storage devices. With the sincerely increase of data, the limitation of traditional data backup technology is much more clear. It is urgent for the emergence of a new technology.The Fiber Channel technology is a new data transmission technology. With the properties of long distance connection, strong scalability, high-performance transmission, strong stability and reliability, it is used for data transfer between computer equipments. Fiber Channel technology will be applied to the data backup technology; it can solve these problems of bottleneck bandwidth and server load in conveying.This paper analyzes the key technologies of Fiber Channel protocol, the basic data backup theory and NDMP protocols; proposes a method which is used for off-site data back-up by Fiber Channel technology. In the way, the backup-related equipments will be connected together to a storage area network, make the data only transmit in the storage area network. It accelerates the data backup rate and reduces the load of the LAN; under the control of NDMP protocol, the server is free from the data transmission, the maximum operational load is released; the bandwidth bottlenecks and server load problems of traditional data backup system are solved. Finally, the capability based on the technology of Fiber Channel data backup is verified by the OPNET simulation tools. Results show that using the technology in the data backup system, the data backup will have a fewer influence about network delay, reduce the business server load significantly, and improve the capability of the system effectively.
