In recent years, with people's growing demand of multimedia service, video technology - an important part of multimedia technology has also made great development. But the new video coding algorithm brings high compression rate and high compression quality , it also introduces problems of high computational complexity. In response to this feature, how to achieve real-time video system on hardware platform has become a critical issue.In this paper, based on TI TMS320 DM6437 hardware platform and H.264 as the core video coding algorithm, we design a complete video system. To ensure the system scalability and portability, the whole system functions on a reasonable division of the system function modules .After the design of system architecture, we implement every functional modules and the communications functions between the modules,and finally implements the entire video system based on TMS320 DM6437 platform . The video system can capture/ display video images, video encoding / decoding, channel coding / decoding and transmits over network . We achieve the design functional requirements set in the very beginning.Following the fulfillment of the functions of the system , we improve the system's overall operation through various ways ,such as reasonable adjustment of function module operation , compiler optimizations, spatial structure adjustment and so on. Finally, we achieve a real-time video system up to 25 frames per second on TMS320 DM6437 platform.
