H.264 video compression standard was set by the joint video team constitute by the video expert group of international telecommunication union telecommunication standardization sector (ITU-T) and the moving pictures expert group (MPEG) of the international standardization organization (ISO/IEC). It has excellent compression performance and friendly network adaptability and it has incomparable with any other video compression standard. H.264 has been widely applied in digital TV broadcasting, video real-time communication, network streaming media,video surveillance and other fields. In this paper, the wireless video surveillance front end adopts the high-effiency H.264 compression encode technology. However, its high-performance is achieved by high computational complexity., therefore, high-performance digital processing chip is necessary to realize the real-time encoding.Because of the high real-time coding equirements of the wireless video monitoring system and high-speed wireless video monitoring system based on WIMAX project, TMS320DM6437 multimedia processor is finally chosen as the h.264 encoder development platform in this paper. The paper focuses on the research of the realization and optimization of H.264 encoder base on DM6437.the main work as follows:(1)Introduce the background, significance and the oringin of the project,and review the history of video encode.(2) X264 encoder is chosen as the basis model based on the analysis and comparison of the three open-source encoder and is developed again.(3)The preliminary optimization to X264 is made based on the PC. The fast frame and frame inter-slice prediction algorithm proposed by the paper greatly reduced the complexity of the coding calculation and increased the encoding efficiency.(4) X264 encoder is transplanted into DM6437 platform and is optimized from several aspects. The encode speed idefinitely increased and the video quality not declined. The system achieves the demand of the real-time coding requirement of D1 format.
