H.264 was jointly proposed by ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group and ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group. Compared with other former standards, H.264 has incomparable advantage in the compression rate, video quality and the robust network stream. However, H.264 algorithm has high encoding efficiency but also high complexity, Davinci technology platform combines the DSP chip with C64x+ processor, providing a strong parallel processing capability.It has presently become an ideal platform in the area of video frequency application for its high computing performance and rich peripheral interface.This paper provided a improved inter and intra frame prediction algorithm, furthermore transplanted and optimized the H.264 coder on DM6437.(1) The thesis has studied the basic principle video compression technology broadly, especially a train of international video coding standards. It takes H.264 video coding international standard as the researching object, and gives a detailed analysis of the H.264 coding algorithm's principle and core technologies.(2) Based on deeply studied the algorithms of H.264, summarized the advantages and disadvantages of various algorithms, a novel inter mode decision algorithm was provided.This algorithm used three modes, small diamond seaech used for small sports type, hexagon search used for the middle movement type, improved large diamond search used for large sports type.(3) Based on deeply studied the algorithms of H.264, a novel intra mode decision algorithm was provided. This algorithm improve the encoder speed through the strategy of prediction of the intra-mode beforehand, the strategy of fast intra coding mode decision and the early termination strategy.(4) At the same tiame, this paper described in detail the transplantation and optimization process of the H.264 Video encoding algorithm in Davinci platform. By taking full advantage of the DSP hardware capability and using various optimized methods, the performance of original encoding algorithm was improved significantly.Researches on DaVinci are given in the end of the paper, which evaluate the new features of the platform and its advantage and disadvantage in H.264 encoding.
