The effective management of product quality is the key link in manufacturing enterprises. How to improve product quality with the information technology is a subject deserving study. The quality management information system (QMIS) integrates information technology and advanced management, which is a necessary tool in enterprises for products. To develop a QMIS that meets the actual needs and development of enterprises is of great realistic significance.Aiming at the quality management problems of complex process, low efficiency and so on in CITIC Heavy Industries Co., Ltd, this paper puts forward developing the QMIS based on B/S for the gear cutters. The related theory, the key techniques and developing methods of the QMIS are researched. Combined with the actual problems, the development method of SSA&D and OOM is presented, which gives full play to the advantages of two methods. According to system requirements, the investigation is conducted. Based on the analysis of the business process and data flow, the problems are identified and the BPR is carried out. The multi-level fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method is used to evaluate the effect of BPR objectively. The results show that the BPR is effective. On the basis of BPR, the QMIS of the gear cutters is designed and implemented in detail, mainly involving the quality management of materials, process, inquiry and SPC, etc. The system test results indicate that it can track, share, inquire and trace the cutter quality information, and it meets the customer requirements and effectively enhances the cutter quality as well. This system effectively compensates for the existing deficiencies of quality control, and it greatly improves the management efficiency of the gear cutters, and thus the management objectives of high benefit, high quality, high flexibility and low cost are realized. The successful development of this system provides new ideas and reference for other QMIS, which is worthy of popularizing.
