The iron oxide red is a kind of stable and red oxide which is taken from the ferric oxide as the principal constituent. As the pigment, it is durable, and the price is cheap. The iron oxide red has a broad market in domestic and foreign. It has good prospect of production and application. It is an important export product in our country.At present, most of the plants use a roasting process through the rotary kiln to produce iron oxide red. This processing technics takes on a large scale and high capacity. The temperature control plays a key role in the rotary kiln's roasting process for a stabilization of production, a benign quality of finished products, a high yield, a lower energy consumption, the safety of production and so on.The calcinating procedure in the rotary kiln is a complex thermal process. The characteristic of nonlinear, large time delay and multi-variables in the process appears. Its mathematical model is difficult to be established. On the basis of analyzing on the process technology and technic requirements, a kind of RBF neural network temperature prediction model based on adaptive genetic algorithm was proposed. Both of their advantages were combined to establish the temperature prediction model of reaction zone. A nicer prediction precision was improved through the simulation in the platform Matlab. According to the requirement on the temperature control, a control strategy in virtue of parameter self-adaption RBF neural network PID based on feedback of the temperature prediction was proposed. The shortages in the temperature control process, such as large overshoot, long setting time and low steady-state accuracy, had effectively been mended.The hardware system for roasting temperature control on iron oxide red was constructed based on the S7-300 and Profibus, and HMI interface and SCADA software were developed based on kingview monitoring platform and Step-7 programming tools. The centralized management and decentralized control of the iron oxide red production were realized. The system had been applied in practical production. The actual results show that the control system had good performance and reliable stability.
