With the in-depth development of domestic computer applications technology, the embedded system is applied gradually to become a new hot subject. In the field of national industrial control, the development of the embedded system is built from the stand-alone control system to the Distributed Control System (DCS) and the newer Fieldbus Control System (FCS) derived from DCS. At present, for the situation that DCS monopoly by foreign companies and the vast domestic market, the localized production of DCS becomes technology research priority and urgent requirements.According to the requirements of the project, the paper describes VxWorks Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and the process of entire system porting for VxWorks RTOS based on MPC8313E hardware platform in detail and the major works are shown as follows:1. To begin with, the paper presents the basis of embedded system while an overview of the concepts of DCS. To improve the system reliablity, the MPC8313E is adopted as the hardware platform for the hardware system design, and the choices for main device chip modules are depicted in detail.2. The VxWorks RTOS is introduced in detail, referring to VxWorks startup process, kernel types and new driver architecture-VxBus. Furthermore, the related Integrated Development Environment (IDE) workbench3.0 is required to build VxWorks RTOS and some functions about it are referred in brief.3. Based on MPC8313E hareware platform, the procedures of system porting and driver development that are the focus of the paper are introducted. Allow for the demands of the project and the overall configuration analysis, these support modules are divided successfully that contain the VxWorks minimum system, Ethernet driver, Flash driver and RTC driver. Meanwhile, the modules are analysed for driver architecture and implemented, combined with the practical applications.4. The specific testing results of these driver modules are represented. The performance of the modules can be assessed and improved by the successive tesing, thereby, which has verified the feasibility and reliability of the system.
