Along with the development of (Micro Control Unit) MCU and communication technology, wireless communications technology is playing an increasingly important role in our life. The combination of embedded Linux operating system and 32-bit ARM9 processor are a better choice in the embedded system area. The wirless communications technology integration to this solution can be appled to more sectors, such as Automactic Meter Reading Systems.Linux operating system is one of the most prominent operate systems which is free, and open source, transplant. Linux can be easily ported to the ARM hardware platform. Through appropriate tailoring.At present, ARM platform is the most popular embedded processor structure, and has been widely used in intelligent mobile phones, tablet PC and other consumer electronic products.In this thesis, we slected a S3C2440 hardware platform with a ARM920t CPU. This platform has a wealthy of peripheral resources,and is of 433MHz processing frequency, so it is appropriate to run an embedded Linux operating system.In wireless communications, for long distance wireless communications, is used in the (General Packet Radio Service) GPRS, and ZigBee for the short rang wireless communications. ZigBee technology has features like low complexity, low power consumption, low data rate, safe and reliable, so it has very broad prospects for development in the filed of smart home, indestrial automation, wireless meter reading,wrieless sensor networks etc.This thesis presents the work originated from a practical research and development project of "Public Service Networked Meter System".Firstly, the embedded development platform is constructed. Cross-compiler and remote debugging are created. Its bootloader U-Boot and embedded Linux kernel are ported to ARM9 hardware platform.Embedded root filesystem is created by using BusyBox.Secnodely, This paper study deeply protocol stack architecture and frame structure is carried out. Each layer of the protocol stack functions, structure model and frame structure is analyzed.Finally, In the embedded platform,this system operate GPRS module by serial port in the Linux operating system for remote communication. In the down-link communication part, the system use Z-Stack, which is TI's protocol stack.Network structure and software design are given in detail.
