The embedded system has a history of more than 30 years. It has already been applied widely. With the speed development of computer and communication technology, the embedded system has merged into almost every field. According to this, the embedded development gained some new characters, such as highly integrated SOC technology, SOPC technology for soft-core and hard-core synchronous development, combining with DSP technology, even perfect exploiture and debug instrument and syncretizing software engineer's thinking into embedded software. The Vehicle-Carried Multimedia Control Terminal is typical and developed rapidly among which. The Vehicle-Carried Multimedia Control Terminal not only provides all of the traditional Control Terminal's functionalities but also enhances the information management and multimedia application's functionalities. Therefore, it can be used as both PDA and GPS.ARM platform is the most popular embedded processor structure. In this article, we selected the S3C2440 CPU as hardware platform. The S3C2440 is a high capability CPU based on ARM920T structure, and suitable for operation system migratation because of its abundant peripheral equipment interface and 400MHz main frequency.As the main operating systems at present, the free Linux's performance is remarkable. There are extensive hardware supporting from manufacturers and complete software developing instrument. Besides, it has no worry in security, which is a serious defect of Windows system. and the price is lower than some other real-time operating systems, such as VxWorks, Windows CE. Based on the foregoing advantages, my paper puts forward an implementation approach of Vehicle-Carried Multimedia Control Terminal in Linux.Based on the study of ARM, Linux and Qt/Embedded, the design of the Vehicle-Carried Multimedia Control Terminal is researched in this thesis. The key of this design is hardware, drivers and application software system.In this paper, the choosing criterion of system hardware is discussed including S3C2440, SAA7113, Flash, LCD touch-screen at first. Then, based on embedded system and combined with characteristics of Linux, the scheme is proposed and development environment based on SMDK2440 board is formed. At last, integrated with embedded GUI's architecture and principle adopting QT/Embedded as the development tool, the design of the Vehicle-Carried Multimedia Control Terminal is finished sucessfully.
