Traffic information collection is an important for ITS, It is the basis of traffic management, traffic control, traffic prediction, traffic guiding and traffic information service. There have lot kinds of Traffic information, in summary, they includes two categories:static traffic information and dynamic traffic information. The static traffic information include traffic spatial information and traffic attribute information, a lot of them is changeless, and unaffected by human factors influence; But the dynamic traffic information is reflecting the traffic flow data of the road network and the data of the traffic demand characteristics of the space distribution features. The traffic information collection equipments are the important tool to collect the traffic information, but any of them is impossible to collect all traffic information of the road network. Therefore, the common characteristic of the current traffic information collection equipments is that they abandon the unimportant traffic information and focus on the pivotal information.Pivotal transportation information includes vehicle information and road traffic parameter information. The vehicle information include license plate number, vehicle type, owner identity etc; Traffic parameters information include traffic flow, average speed, road traffic density, share and travel time etc. The pivotal traffic information not only important to traffic planning, network construction, traffic management, but also important to the realization of the function of intelligent transportation system, they are the basis of the traffic development planning and the traffic scientific management.RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is the current and potential and convenient technology to identify multi-target technology, it need not contact with the object, the distance of the identification is long, big space for Information storage, faster recognition. At present, RFID technology is mainly used in the electronic toll collection, parking management, transit card etc.Based on the advantages of RFID and the analysis of different frequencies of RFID, and the characteristics of information acquisition realistic features of the intelligent transportation, we will use the RFID technology to the pivotal traffic information collection.Currently, traffic information collection technologies include Loop Detector technology, video detection acquisition, acquisition of microwave detection, infrared and ultrasonic sensing technology, radar acquisition, the traffic information collection device has some shortcomings and deficiencies:equipment complex, tedious calculations By weather and lighting effects, the data collected is too large, damage to the road installation, installation and maintenance problems and so on. These shortcomings and deficiencies in the radio frequency identification technology used to collect traffic information will no longer critical.This paper first analyzes the scope and importance of the pivotal traffic information, and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of various traffic information equipments. Choose suitable RFID types for traffic pivotal information collection that based on the reality of the situation of intelligent transportation operation, and how to use binary prevent collision algorithm to recognize many vehicles at the same time;Secondly, using the physical significance and mathematical formula of traffic parameters to discuss the methods and principle of using RFID to reach a target of collecting the traffic parameters;Finally, in order to achieve practical effect, design the flow of RFID reader how to read card, pivotal traffic information database, the method of vehicle information code and application software;At the end of this paper is the summary and prospection of application prospects of this system, and summed up the difficulties and challenges of the system of the RFID technology used in the pivotal traffic information collection, and summed up the mistake and defects of design of this paper.
