Taiwan PTS: Social Environment, Multi-dimensional Discourse And Daily Practice

The suvival and the development of the public television system in the economical globalization and the media convergence reflects the polynary possibilities of the television system and content.Public televisions in different time and space varies from each other, proving the paradox of fate in the encounter between the success and the embarassment.This paper bases on my sense and thinking at the scene while studying and practicing in Taiwan.Integrated with sorting out some of the inerrelated socail and media theories, I try to draw out the stratgies PTS chooses and difficulties PTS faces.This paper concludes in that the establishment and development of PTS is pregnant in the complex context of politics,economy and social culture and retroact to the social structure with its special media charactor and quality service,although whose power is meager. The goal and desire of PTS still needs daily production of the program to make them realized, that is to say, permeate into the choosing of the news source, the emphasis of the media ethics and the confirmability of the reporting position. Given that the environment of Taiwan media puts much importance on the business and entertainment, PTS bearing too many expectations and responsabilities is sure to have dissatisfactory law, system and condition of the audience reception, indicating some kind of misrecognition and malposition between great ideal and the real.
